Welcome to the finale of my 15-day UX Writing challenge. If you have not been following, let me fill you in on the backstory. Over two weeks ago, I impulsively signed up for the Daily UX Writing challenge.

Over the course of 14 days, I received daily challenges via email. Each challenge came with a scenario and specific character limits. The objective was to create a UX Writing solution for each challenge. But I took it further and designed all the screens. I shared the entire journey here on my Medium page.

And for day 15, the grand finale, I was presented with three challenges to choose from. All three challenges involved creating copy for a full onboarding flow. Talk about saving the best for last, aye?

This article is a breakdown of how I approached my chosen challenge.

Ready? Let’s get right into it.

Day 15: The Final Challenge

Write a multi-screen onboarding experience for a banking app that automatically pays a user’s bills every month — as long as they set it up correctly.

Character constraints per screen:

Headline: 45 characters

Body: 100 characters

Button: 25 characters

My Solution

My goal was to create an engaging and personalized onboarding experience for the users. To achieve this, I adapted the tone to the various stages of the user’s journey while maintaining a consistent voice across all screens.

Mockups of my solution, designed in Figma. Screen 1 (Welcome screen): The headline: “Bill payment is a breeze with SmartPay”. The body text: ”Never miss a billing cycle again. Just set up your SmartPay account and we’ll take care of all your bills, automatically.” Screen 2 (Sign up screen): The title: “Welcome to SmartPay.” The call-to-action is, “Continue”.
Welcome and signup screens

Welcome screen

I used an upbeat and enthusiastic tone to create a positive first impression and persuade the users to explore the app.

Sign-up screen

I used an informative and helpful tone to guide the users and minimize the chances of any input errors.

Mockups of my solution, designed in Figma. Screen 3 Title: “Who are you paying?” Screen 4 title: “How do you want to pay?”
Bill set-up and payment information screens

Bill set-up and payment information screens

I kept the tone polite and professional at this stage of the experience to create a sense of trust, competence, and reliability. We are asking the users for vital information, so this is not the time for a lighthearted approach.

Task completion screen

I used a congratulatory and reassuring tone to convey a sense of accomplishment and relief.

Throughout the onboarding experience, I kept the language clear and simple to make the experience easy and intuitive for users.

That’s all for Day 15! And with that, I’ve officially come to the end of my 15-day UX Writing challenge. If you have any thoughts on this or any of my previous solutions, feel free to leave a comment. Wanna get in touch? You can reach me on LinkedIn.
