Daily UX Writing Challenge: Day 2
Promotional Message for a Sports App
Hello again!
Another day, another UX writing task. Welcome to day 2 of my 15-day UX Writing challenge.
Can I gush for a moment about how much I am enjoying these daily challenges? I particularly love the creative freedom that comes with each brief. Since there are no defined personas or brand guidelines, I have the flexibility to put my own spin on things. How can you not love that, aye?
Today’s task is to create a promotional screen targeted at a working parent who is a sports fanatic.
Ready? Let’s dive right in!
UX Writing Challenge: Day 2
Scenario: A user is a working parent, and a big sports fan, in the midst of their favorite sports season who can no longer attend games.
Challenge: Write a promotional screen for an app that lets a user choose teams, sends game reminders, real-time score updates and highlight videos
Headline: 40 characters max
Body: 175 characters max
Button(s): 25 characters max
My solution
Just for the sake of it, let’s assume that this particular user is a football (soccer) fan.
As the message is a promotional one, my goal was to get the reader to take an action. In this case, download the sports app. To accomplish this, I decided to use an enthusiastic, exciting (because sports are fun), and persuasive tone.
Headline: “Get prime football action. Anytime. Anywhere.”
To capture the user’s attention, I chose a headline that lets them know they can watch high-quality live football games at any time and location. So they don’t have to worry about missing a football game anymore.
Body: “Download the SportsZone app to enjoy non-stop football thrills, always.”
Starting with the exact action we want the users to take (download) creates a sense of urgency and encourages them to take the desired action. Also, listing the app’s benefits makes the message more compelling as they can see what they stand to gain by downloading the app.
Button: “Download SportsZone app”
The button copy follows through from the message and invites the user to download the app.
And, that’s a wrap for Day 2! Expect another update from me tomorrow as I tackle another UX writing challenge. For now, feel free to share your thoughts on today’s solution.
